Austin Technology Companies Get Help from Envision

Envision Creative Group helps propel Austin area tech companies to Inc 500 ranks

Austin creative design and marketing firm helps tech start-ups stay innovative and gain national exposure

October 2012 – AUSTIN, TX – As the nation continues to look for signs of a revitalized economy after the 2008 recession, a few Austin based recession-era start-ups made strategic moves in a risky economic climate that lead to success. This year, ten Austin-area companies made Inc. Magazine’s annual Inc 500 list of America’s fastest-growing companies. The list, which has a base year of 2008, the height of the recession, represents the most comprehensive look at America’s independent entrepreneurs. One such company is Austin based Acumen, which ranked 434 on the Inc 500 list this year. Envision Creative Group, an Austin, based creative design firm that specializes in branding, marketing, graphic design and website design, has worked closely with technology companies such as Acumen for over ten years to develop innovative marketing solutions tailored to their needs. Other Austin based technology companies that have received national attention after approaching Envision Creative Group to re-haul their marketing messages include: Calxeda, BedWatch.

“One of Envision’s largest assets is our CEO’s (David Smith’s) keen knowledge of technology. We understand tech companies on a level that most firms don’t. We just get it,” shared Stephanie Silver, Envision Creative Group’s Vice-President. “Most of the time startups are doing something never done before and that requires up-to-date knowledge of technology and their varying industries.”

It was Envision Creative’s strategic approach to branding that brought in long-term client Acumen, a software firm that develops project management programs for creating airtight schedules through analytics. Acumen is now ranked number 434 on Inc. magazine’s 31st on Inc. 500|5000. To achieve this, Acumen had to reach a minimum sales growth of 770%, an enormous task for any organization. Acumen reached a three-year sales growth of 861%. However, before Acumen was able to achieve this high level ranking, the brand needed definition in a somewhat undefined market.

“They wanted the perception of value for who they were and what they did. They did not have that. Their brand was all over the place,” said Envision Creative Group President and CEO David Smith. “We engaged in an all out rebrand. New messaging, new collateral, new value points; really creating their brand from the ground up.”

After meeting with Acumen’s marketing team, Envision Creative’s team took a hands-on approach to discovering how to strategically streamline their marketing and help people understand how Acumen was different.

“Our vision, drive, innovation and our customers make Acumen what it is today,” said Dr. Dan Patterson, CEO of Acumen. “Where Envision Creative Group played a huge role was helping us develop a respected, trusted and consistent brand and message across the board. It all fits, from literally our biz cards to our web site to our product brochures. The consistency is a massive factor in our brand awareness.”

Another Austin based technology company that helped to provide branding solutions to is server manufacturer Calxeda, a startup with ARM-based computers that make server computing more energy efficient and less costly.

In order to compete with major competitors AMD and Intel, Calxeda needed an entirely new brand that could establish them as a major force in their market.

“Calxeda had a logo, but no brand. They communicated on an as-needed basis, and hadn’t thought through how to clearly communicate the greatness of their product,” said Stephanie Silver, Vice-President of Envision Creative. “We set out to make them look like a bigger company, but our main goal was to lend credibility to their brand. We wanted to make their products something that HP would become interested in.”

Shortly after revamping Calxeda’s marketing materials and website, the company’s first major breakthrough was announced. In November of last year, Hewlett Packard Company decided to utilize Calxeda’s products in an experimental server. Known as the Redstone, this is a first step towards industry leaders adopting the new technology of Calxeda’s processors.

BedWatch, another Envision Creative client, has brought a highly innovative approach to the field of Hospital Housekeeping Systems (HHS). The Austin, TX based company has taken the new technologies of cloud computing and wireless tablets and adapted them in their solution to patient throughput.

As a startup in the healthcare industry, BedWatch became entrenched in a volatile market already saturated by numerous technological advances in hospital housekeeping systems. Because much of hospital management attend trade shows related to healthcare, Envision Creative was contracted to create trade show publications that would deliver a consistent marketing theme for BedWatch’s software.

BedWatch has since been recognized with the Austin Chamber of Commerce’s 2011 Greater Austin Business Award in the field of Technology and is now on it’s way to success in the healthcare market.

Passion is Envision Creative’s driving force to evolve and to help the brands Envision Creative works with to succeed. Constantly evolving innovation has been key in sustaining the technology industry’s evolution and growth. Smart and strategic branding and messaging helps these companies to succeed. Envision Creative focuses on their craft daily, and combines energy and focus to help brands such as Acumen, Calexda and BedWatch achieve their goals.
